We are the generation between stories
As if there were no alternative paths to follow or create
Chronic failure of imagination
As we step forth into unknown pages

The freedoms of history
Can evolve into the chains of the future
That the fetish for wealth, fame, and status
Spiritual malaise
Myth of progress
The Empire had to grow or die

Locked into a consumer existence
This was the hollow culture transnational corporations celebrated
And the planet’s ecosystems were trembling under the weight of overconsumption
An ecological time limit
But this culture was based on mistaken ideas of freedom, wealth, and happiness

That they were being robbed by the capitalist system
And that collectively they had the power to stop such robbery
Revolutionary ambitions
Capitalism would indeed fall
But not by way of revolution, by way of collapse
The entire system began to fray

Even the clouds of a violent thunderstorm
Can have a silver lining
And what did not kill us, made us stronger
As life beyond civilisation begins
We are the generation in between stories
